Access Fee Waiver Scheme

Information for asylum seekers wishing to enrol on access courses

The University of Glasgow is committed to welcoming all applicants, regardless of their background. As part of this commitment, fee waivers will be offered each year to Access students who are seeking asylum.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be seeking asylum in the UK.
  • Live in or around Glasgow.
  • Have been resident in Scotland for at least 1 year by the time the Access Programme starts in September 2025.
  • Meet the English language requirements for Access, being capable of speaking, reading and writing in English at a level equivalent to IELTS overall score of 6.0, with no single element less than 5.5.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have achieved a National 5 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) qualification at grade B or above (or equivalent).

Applications for our Access Fee Waiver scheme for academic year 2025/26 open at 09:00 on Monday 24th March 2025 and will close at 23:00 on Sunday 6th of April 2025.

Before completing your application form please ensure that you have read the information on our Access webpages.

In particular, please ensure that you have a solid understanding of the following:

  • Details of our Access subjects, so that you can decide if the course content is of interest to you.
  • The day/time that each Access subject is timetabled, to ensure that you can commit to attending all classes at those times. You should also make sure that you are able to commit the time required for independent study on the Access subjects of your choice.
  • Which two Access subjects will allow you to progress onto your intended UofG degree path, and the existing level of knowledge required to begin studying on Access (this is particularly relevant for those wishing to take Science subjects), to ensure you are embarking on a suitable pathway.

More information about University of Glasgow Access to Higher Education programme is available across these webpages.

We encourage you to familiarise yourself with what our Access Programme can offer and ask you to ensure that you have researched which degree programme you hope to progress onto after Access.
