How to apply

You must be internally nominated by the hosting School or Research Institute to the Visiting Students Team before application guidance or formal acceptance can be confirmed.

Nomination window:

  • For September entry: 01 March - 20 April
  • For January/March entry: 01 October – 20 October

For nomination instructions, Schools/hosting academics must contact visiting-students@glasgow.ac.uk

Nominated students must submit an online application. You will be sent an application link and guidance by the Visiting Students Team upon receipt and approval of nomination.

 

Identifying project opportunities

You must contact Schools/Research Institutes independently to find out about any opportunities for visiting student project work.

A host mentor and project must be identified and provisionally confirmed before students can formally apply or be accepted. 

What documents will I need to provide? What are the English Language requirements?

You will be required to provide the following documentation at the point of application in order to support formal acceptance and visa sponsorship.

  • Academic transcript to date with official translation in English.
  • A colour copy of the photo page of a current passport. Passports must be valid for 6 months beyond the planned end of the exchange period in Glasgow.
  • English Language Proficiency: English Language requirements  for all accepted English testing options.

You must be proficient in all four components of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The entry requirements for the Study Abroad and international exchange programme are IELTS 6.0 with no subtest less than 5.5. 

Students attending for durations which are longer than 6 months must provide a SELT for UKVI sponsorship purposes.

  • Evidence of continuing UG/PGT degree-seeking student at the student’s home university, and that the research period at Glasgow is a recognised part of the home degree. This can be evidenced by a Learning Agreement and/or a letter of support for project work in Glasgow from the home institution.
  • A Learning Agreement/research plan which details the anticipated activities and outcomes for the project work. This should be completed with input from the home university and hosting academic mentor at the University of Glasgow. A template for this can be provided to students if needed by the Visiting Students Team.
