Nankai and Glasgow Joint Graduate Summer School

The Nankai and Glasgow Joint Graduate School Summer School is a three-week non-credit bearing course which brings students from the Nankai and Glasgow Joint Graduate School and the Nankai Graduate School to the University of Glasgow.

The course combines English for academic study, seminar participation, library and research skills, presentation skills, and essay and dissertation writing workshops, with subject-specific lectures and field trips. In the second part of the course, you will get the opportunity to explore Environmental Science, International Relations, Translation Studies or Urban Planning.

Designed to give Nankai students a taste of what it is like to study at the University of Glasgow, you will be given the opportunity to enhance your study skills before continuing your postgraduate education. You will also develop your independent study skills, enhance your ability to use English in academic settings, and get to know Glasgow and Scotland.

The course is devised to develop analytical skills, theoretical argumentation, and communication skills through research training, oral presentation, and group discussion.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • review the key elements of successful oral communication and presentation
  • apply the key attributes required to work in teams in an academic context
  • recognise the key elements in UK University education, including seminar participation, presentations and written and oral assessment
  • critically assess the key ideas examined in your subject
  • explain these ideas in presentations and discussions.
