Funding for Access to Higher Education

Cost: £290 per subject.

Most students take two subjects, costing a total of £580.

Funding for students resident in Scotland

If you earn £25,000 or less per annum and live in Scotland, you may be eligible for the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) Part-Time Fee Grant (PTFG) which will contribute £214 towards the cost of each subject you are studying. Students are required to pay the remaining balance themselves (usually £152, or £76.00 per subject). For full details on the SAAS Part-time Fee Grant, visit the SAAS website.

If you are eligible you then have two options:

Option 1

  • Contact the Access team for instructions on how to enrol on your course/s using a Part Time Fee Grant: access@glasgow.ac.uk
  • Once SAAS have processed your funding application, your SAAS portal will be updated to let you know it is pending University of Glasgow validation.
  • We will check the accuracy of your course details submitted. Should this be accurate, we will ‘validate’ your application and SAAS will confirm the final award to you. You do not need to take any action during this time.

Option 2

  • Once SAAS have processed your funding application, your SAAS portal will be updated to let you know it is pending University of Glasgow validation.
  • We will check the accuracy of your course details submitted. Should this be accurate, we will ‘validate’ your application and SAAS will confirm the final award to you. You do not need to take any action during this time.
  • We will refund the amount covered by your PTFG award (usually £428, or £214 per subject) once SAAS confirm your final award.

In either case, please wait until the 2024–25 online application becomes available on the SAAS website before applying. This should be towards the beginning of April 2024.

If you apply for SAAS at an early stage it is likely that places on your preferred Access courses will still be available, but please note that as the classes fill up on a first come basis, there are no guarantees.

If you need more information on funding and using SAAS you can email our admin team at access@glasgow.ac.uk

Funding for students seeking asylum

If you are currently seeking asylum and do not have recourse to SAAS funding to cover course fees, you may be eligible for a place on Access through our fee-waiver scheme

Other funding sources

There may be other sources of support specific to your own personal circumstances (e.g. retraining schemes for people leaving the Armed Forces, employer sponsorship) and we may be able to accept these. Please contact us for advice at access@glasgow.ac.uk

Self-funding

If you are not eligible for the Part Time Fee Grant, your fee must be paid in full on enrolment. We accept card payments only (Visa and Mastercard).

If you need to discuss flexible payment options, please contact us at access@glasgow.ac.uk
