Biography

Ngoc Tran is a PhD researcher in Geroscience and Epigenetics at the University of Glasgow, studying under Professor Paul Shiels. Her research is supported by "MINDSHIFT" - an Innovative Training Network funded by the European Commission. Before coming to Glasgow, she completed her Master degree in Animal Sciences from Wageningen University, Netherlands. Ngoc received her BSc from Nong Lam University, Vietnam where she studied Veterinary Medicine. In 2021, Ngoc performed her internship at Amsterdam AMC to learn more about gene therapy and the efficacy of this treatment on patients with either tachyarrhythmia or bradycardia. Her experience covers various laboratory techniques, bioinformatics and statistics skills. She can be contacted at: ngoc.tran@glasgow.ac.uk.

Research interests

My research interest focus on investigating the role of aging in functional, structural and mechanical changes in the vascular smooth muscle in hypertension. From that, potential therapeutic agents and strategies will be used to specifically target cardiovascular disease. 

Current research

  • Mitigating the effects of accelerated vascular ageing in hypertension
  • Senotherapeutics and their potential roles in preventing and treating the "diseasome of ageing"

I am a PhD student of Shiels lab. Our research group is situated within the Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre.
