Biography
I was appointed Executive Director of Research Services in March 2025. Working closely with the Vice Principal Research and Knowledge Exchage, I have responsibility for the delivery of the University’s Research and Knowledge Exchange strategic objectives and I provide leadership to the portfolios areas within the Research Services Directorate (RSD) which include research policy, research governance, research impact and engagement, research culture, researcher development, and strategic initiatives including the Advanced Research Centre Operations. In addition, I have oversight of institution-wide major cross-disciplinary research investments, such as Glasgow Changing Futures and the Centre for Data Science and AI.
I was previously Assistant Director of Research and Impact (Strategy, Policy and Performance) at the University of Exeter (2018-2025) and Head of Strategic Planning, Evidence and Impact at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) (2014-2018). I have had experience of delivering REF, developing new cross-disciplinary initiatives, developing and delivering organisational research strategies, making the case for multi-million programmes and partnerships and building new teams to articulate and evaluate impact.
Prior to joining the Research Councils, I worked at the universities of Cambridge and St Andrews. In Cambridge, I supported REF2014 preparations, the activities of interdisciplinary initiatives ranging from energy research to public policy initiatives, and, managed institution-wide strategic corporate and funder relationships. At St Andrews, I supported research bid development, initial REF2014 preparations and the roll-out of research information systems at a more local level within a School. I was an undergraduate at the University of Bristol who then moved to Scotland to be medieval history postgraduate at the University of St Andrews where I also had the opportunity to teach medieval history at St Andrews and Edinburgh.
