Head of Division of Equine Clinical Sciences

Dr Tim Parkin BSc,BVSc, PhD, DipECVPH, FHEA, MRCVS

Tim ParkinMy major area of work is equine epidemiology. I am particularly interested in identifying methods to prevent musculoskeletal injury and fatality in the Thoroughbred racehorse. This work has included the identification of risk factors for distal limb fracture in the UK (Equine Vet J 2004, 2005, 2006), fatality in Australia (Equine Vet J 2007) and tendon injury in Hong Kong (Am J Vet Res 2007, Equine Vet J 2007, Vet Rec 2007). My current focus is the quantification of both genetic and environmental markers (and their interactions) for a number of diseases of the Thoroughbred. I am also using novel imaging modalities to investigate potential geometric, structural and pathological markers of fracture in the racehorse.
