Community
As a student in the School of Social and Political Sciences you are part of a vibrant, dynamic and diverse community, and there are so many ways to get involved.
The School is home to several active and welcoming academic societies, and anyone at any stage of their university jouney can join.
Academic Societies:
CEES Society
The Central and Eastern European Society welcomes all from the region, those that study the degree, or just have an interest in the area. The host both formal and informal academic and social events throughout the year, involving both the University and cultural institutions across Glasgow.
You can contact them via their Instagram (uofg.ceessoc) or email ceessociety@gmail.com.
ESH Society
The Economic and Social History Society is open to anyone who wants to explore modern history. We engage in topics from the 1750s onwards, investigating the world and how it has changed both socially and economically.
Through creativity, communication and academic intelligence, they aim to harness fun and appealing activities that will broaden students understanding and passion for the subject. Email them at EconSocHistory@src.gla.ac.uk.
International Relations
This is a society focused on promoting engagement with the field of International Relations to students on campus. They primarily host academic and employability events and aim to host one social every month.
They invite professionals working in foreign policy, development, diplomacy, and more to give talks to students. They also connect students with the opportunity to meet alumni who have successfully started a career in International Relations so they may learn how to focus their studies and extracurricular activities.
Email them at irsocietyglasgow@gmail.com.
Politics Society
The Glasgow University Politics Society hosts two events a week: an academic "Politics and Pints" event on Tuesdays and a social event on Thursdays. All students with an interest in politics are welcome to come along; you don't have to study politics!
You can contact them via their Instagram @gupoliticssociety and you can sign up for free membership there too.
Social and Public Policy Society
The SPP society is a student led group which organises both academic and social events for students who are interested in social and public policy. They try to plan a variety of events so everyone can join something they're interested in.
You can follow them on Instagram @gusppsociety or email any questions to socialandpublicpolicy@src.gla.ac.uk.
School Community Events
The Student Experience Team in partnership with the Student Experience Forum (STEF) organises a calendar of events which are open to all SPS students.
The events are an excellent opportunity to socialise, meet new friends, and celebrate.
Details of how to register for our events can be found on the Moodle Information Hubs and on our social media channels.
