I am a political scientist with almost 15 years of experience in university leadership, teaching comparative politics, research design, and EU- and Russia-related courses, as well as conducting research in the fields of policy studies, comparative governance & regime dynamics, political attitudes & political behaviour. I typically explore these questions through the empirical cases of Russia and other post-Soviet states as well as the EU. I also write about EU–Russia relations.
I joined the University of Glasgow in September 2023, following a visiting fellowship at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. Prior to moving to Berlin and then to Glasgow, much of my professional career was linked to HSE University in St. Petersburg, where I worked for 11 years, first as a Lecturer (2012–2017) and subsequently as an Associate Professor (2017–2023). At HSE University, I served as Academic Director of the International BA Programme in Political Science & World Politics between 2018 and 2021. I subsequently served as Dean of the School of Social Sciences & Area Studies during the 2021–2022 academic year. Before joining HSE University in 2012, I worked at St. Petersburg State University (2011–2012) and the European University at St. Petersburg (2010–2011).
I defended my PhD dissertation in Political Science at the School of International Relations, St. Petersburg State University, in 2015 and later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Russian Studies Workshop at Indiana University, USA, in 2018. I hold a BA in European Studies and an MA in EU Studies from St. Petersburg State University. I am also an alumna of the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium (Charles Darwin Promotion, 2009–2010).
After joining the University of Glasgow, I served as Acting Convenor of the MSc/MRes in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies during the autumn semester of 2023. In 2024, I assumed the role of Academic Director of the Erasmus Mundus International Master in Central and East European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (CEERES), a position I have held since. I am based at CEES within the Division of Politics and International Studies, School of Social and Political Sciences.
