Dr Catherine Happer takes a look at the 'failure' of the media to predict Trump's ascendancy to presidency and the vote for Brexit, as well as public's 'trust' in the media. She discusses recent research findings from focus groups in the UK and the US and argues that the winning back of trust in journalism must be addressed and there needs to be a more reflective take on journalists' own culpability.
