Abstract

This lecture will give historical background to stratification in China, what it means, how it affects and is related to the poverty gap, social progress and political development, and what this means going forward.

Speaker Biography

Prof Zhu Guanglei is Vice President of Nankai Universiy. A distinguished scholar within China, his research primarily focuses on Chinese government and politics and Chinese social class differentiation. Representative works include: Analysis of Contemporary Chinese Social Class, The Governmental Process of Contemporary China, Modern Government Theory and Governing China - Decision Making and Implementation: Interpretation of the Processes of the Chinese Government.

Prof Zhu obtained his doctorate from Nankai University in 1998. He became Vice President in 2011. He is deputy director of the Colleges and Universities Political Science Steering Committee. In 2003 he was awarded the title of National Distinguished Teacher.

This lecture will be delivered in Chinese with an English interpreter.
