School of Social & Political Sciences

Following the success of this format in 2025, the Early Career Place Network is hosting a new series of free online sessions designed to delve into current writing projects, tackle the latest additions to a reading list or make space for deep thinking.

Online social writing has been shown to be beneficial for goal setting, accountability, and giving ourselves permission to slow down, but it is also a great opportunity to connect with peers and share ideas. Each session will start and end with a reflection on goals, alongside moments for pause and exchange with peers working on place-based research, policy and practice.

Sessions will run over multiple dates across June, July and August, and include three blocks of focused time:

9.15 – 9.30 Welcome and Goal setting

9.30 – 11:00 Focused time block 1

11:00 – 11.30 Break

11.30 – 12.30 Focused time block 2

12.30 – 13.30 Lunch

13.30 – 15.00 Focused time block 3

15.00 – 15.10 Coffee break

15.10 – 15.30 Final check-in: taking stock, feedback, next moves

Participation is open to anyone who self defines as early career academic or practitioner working on place-based issues.
