This is the first round-up of the Early Career Place Network in 2026. Please keep reading for event details.
Wed 21 January, 1-2 pm | Postcode Analysis
This session will focus on an exploration of postcode analysis in place-based research with Darcey Henderson, Research Officer at the Audience Agency, with plenty of time for questions and exchange.
Fri 6 February, 9.25-1.00 pm | Reclaiming Focused Time
Building on the success of our summer series, we’ll spend the morning working through blocks of focused time and come together for short breaks. If you can’t join the full day, you’re welcome to drop in at 11 am for a catch-up with colleagues.
Fri 13 February, 1-2 pm | Digitally mediated places
Through academic literature and a few provocations, Claire Boardman will guide us in a conversation on the role of digital practice in place-based work. This Place Dialogue will be based on this open-access paper:
Dai, J., Liu, F. ‘Embracing the digital landscape: enriching the concept of sense of place in the digital age’, Humanit Soc Sci Commun 11, 724 (2024). https://doi.org/10.1057/s41599-024-03200-4
If you have an article, podcast, or blog on digital place-based practice that you found particularly inspiring, we’d love to hear about it at the session.
20 March, 1-2 pm | Who’s the next Jane Jacobs?
Placemaking as a term is increasingly used across policy, practice and academia, but who are the contemporary references we use in our work, teaching and thinking? With this session, we want to invite a collective discussion on the canon of place literature and where the field is headed. This is an informal, participatory discussion. Please come ready to share examples, provocations, and questions.
