The Glasgow Middle East Forum

The Glasgow Middle East Forum (GMEF) was formed in September 2022 in the School of Social & Political Sciences, University of Glasgow. GMEF seeks to advance the interest of staff and postgraduates whose research is wholly or partly concerned socioeconomic and political developments within the Middle East and North Africa. More ambitiously, GMEF provides a space for people across the University and the city of Glasgow to meet and share information relating to the Middle East and North Africa.

Aims

  • Provide a platform for the study of the Middle East and North Africa at the University of Glasgow
  • Offer students and staff a space in which they can discuss and share their research and interests, and aid postgraduates in situating their work within the wider field of Middle East Studies
  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaborations on the Middle East and North Africa
  • Provide a forum for the discussion of the wider Middle East in Scotland

Disciplinary Coverage

The GMEF is envisioned as a platform that can bring together an interdisciplinary group of scholars that share an interest in the broader Middle East. Its organisers share an appreciation for cross-disciplinary approaches to the study of the region and seek to attract a range of researchers into the network. Thus, while having a firm basis in social sciences (political science and international relations, anthropology, sociology, and economics), GMEF seeks to build bridges and collaborate with scholars and students of arts and humanities, in particular, within the University of Glasgow.
