A Transformative Journey: My MSc Global Economy Experience at Glasgow

I am from Bangladesh and my journey into public finance and development has taken me through some unexpected paths, from working in a Korean multinational bank and supporting a British-led project on Sundarbans tiger conservation, to serving in the Bangladesh Civil Service. These experiences sparked my curiosity about how economies, institutions, and public policies shape people's lives, leading me to pursue the MSc Global Economy at the University of Glasgow through a Government of Bangladesh Civil Service scholarship.
After returning to Bangladesh, I worked in tax policy before serving in leadership roles across Revenue administration, including Revenue intelligence, and the Large Taxpayer regime. I currently work as a Public Sector Economist (Consultant) with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) while taking a break from civil service and teach as an Adjunct Faculty member at East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Studying MSc Global Economy at the University of Glasgow was a transformative experience. The programme challenged me to think critically about development and public policy, while its diverse international community broadened my global outlook. One of my most memorable experiences was being one of only five students selected for a competitive exchange programme.
I remain closely connected to Glasgow through my mentors and as the Founding Treasurer of the University of Glasgow Bangladesh Alumni Chapter. Returning to the city this year reminded me that Glasgow is not just where I earned my degree; it is a community that continues to shape my professional and personal journey.
