Cognition & Action

Cognition and action are interconnected, meaning our mental processes (cognition) influence and are influenced by our behaviors and actions. Cognitive processes like perception, memory, and decision-making play a crucial role in determining how we act, while actions can also shape and modify our cognitive abilities.

We study the neuronal underpinnings of cognitive processes across multiple scales, and with multiple techniques, including imaging (3T/7T-MRI), recording (EEG, MEG) and stimulation (TMS).

Pedagogy

We focus on applied pedagogical research that advances inclusive, evidence-based teaching in Higher Education. Grounded in cognition, wellbeing, and open science, we support staff to collaborate, innovate, and translate educational research into impactful practices and policy.

Social Interaction

We lead in computational modeling of human social interaction, combining psychology, linguistics, and AI. By developing cutting-edge technologies, we study multimodal social signals, cognition, and perception, advancing both fundamental research and real-world AI applications.

Our Spinal Cord research focuses on the structure and function of the somatosensory system in health and disease. We use a wide variety of experimental approaches to study the spinal cord and peripheral nervous system at levels ranging from molecules through to behaviour.
