Research interests

Dr Maria Gardani is a lecturer at the School of Psychology. Her teaching includes Health and Clinical Psychology and Sleep and Circadian Timing function.

Main research interests: Maria’s current research is focused on the relationship between psychological and physiological factors underlying neurological disorders and more specifically traumatic and acquired brain injury. She also works on the association between common post traumatic symptoms (fatigue, depression, insomnia and circadian related sleep disorders) and physical health.

Other interests include:

- sleep wake disturbances following mild traumatic brain injury and sport concussion.

- association of psychological and personality factors with sleep wake disturbances and insomnia and more specifically coping mechanisms and self-esteem.

-association of sleep disturbances in young children and parents Additionally, I have a strong interest in Student Mental Health provision and prevention for both undergraduate students and postgraduate researchers.
