  • E.P.S.R.C Doctoral Prize Research Fellow (Physics & Astronomy)

Biography

Dr Colin Kirkbride is a researcher in magnetic materials primarily utilising multimodal Lorentz techniques in transmission electron microscopy. He is currently an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Research Fellow investigating the tuning of ultrathin magnetic films using organic-based capping materials. These systems pose an exciting avenue for the realisation of advanced spintronics and data storage devices through the generation of chiral spin textures such as skyrmions. He has experience working with UK and international industrial and acadmeic collaborations and has a keen interest in understanding fundamental aspects of magnetism alongside their applications to strategic industrially relevent technologies.
