School of Physics & Astronomy

To celebrate the upcoming new session and the launch of our new website, the Media Support Team recently hosted a competition to win official Physics & Astronomy-branded merchandise.  

To enter, participants had 25 words or less to impress us by completing the statement “Physics and/or Astronomy inspires me because...” 

The coveted prizes included P&A branded hooded sweatshirts, T-shirts and Tote-bags. This was the first time we’ve had branded merchandise, so our winners are some of the lucky few to own one of these! 

The competition was stiff, but we are delighted to announce the following winners:

1st Prize - Won by Kevin Mitchell with: 

"Physics inspires me because like a good magic trick, knowing how it’s done in no way diminishes its capacity to instil awe."

2nd Prize - Won by Hannah Thomson with:

"Physics/Astronomy inspires me because it allows me to understand the world.  I can ask myself ‘why does it do that?’ and understand why."

3rd Prize - Won by Josh Clark with:

"Physics and/or Astronomy inspires me because if you ask "why?" enough times, you'll eventually find yourself doing a physics degree"

There were many more fantastic entries and we had a great time reading all of them. Big congratulations to our 3 lucky winners!
