- Oracy development and oral assessment practices in English Medium Education and English for Academic Purposes contexts

- intercultural communication and English as a Lingua Franca research perspectives and their application to teaching and wider communication contexts

- Qualitative approaches to investigating classroom practices (ethnographic approaches, constructivist grounded theory)
