  • Europe and China;
  • Coloniality and postcolonialism;
  • Politics of knowledge and learning
  • Translation Studies
  • Anthropology of contemporary China

Dr Liang specialises in modern Chinese intellectual history from a transcultural and transnational perspective. Her current research project explores education thinking developed by Chinese intellectuals in Europe through several transnational educational experiments. It examines how the question of education and learning was raised, debated and transformed in a seres of Chinese journals published in France from 1907 to 1934 and investigates the importance of education in constructing the social imaginary of modernity in China from a transnational perspective. Dr Liang also works on a collaborative comparative project on broader questions of colonial education by examining practices and policies in India and Hong Kong.
