S1 to S3 school Pupils visited the University of Glasgow for the first time to take part in language and culture taster sessions organized by the SMLC in collaboration with SCILT andand delivered by SMLC Staff and International mobility Tutors. These sessions were run as a part of the General Broad Education for junior pupils in secondary schools across West and East Scotland.

SMLC staff teaching Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Russian and Italian along with Arabic , Chinese and Japanese for International Mobility tutors engaged young school pupils aged between 12 to 15 years old in language and culture sessions as part of the General Broad Education for junior pupils in secondary schools across West and East Scotland Event. The event was organized by our School liaison officer Monica Legazpi Iglesias in collaboration with Lisa Hanna, Depute Director of SCILT ( Scotland's National Centre for Languages), and aimed at reaching out such a young audience on their first visit at the University to inspire them to learn a language in their further studies at school and beyond in higher education.

The parallel language taster sessions took place in the backdrop of Gilmour Scott Building on a bright sunny day on Tuesday, 10th June. Over 60 pupils and their teachers enjoyed walking across the quadrangles to join their selected sessions having also the experience of what is like attending classes at University.

Thanks to the contribution of teaching staff across SMLC and above all the eager participation and interest on the part of the pupils who attended the sessions, the event was very well received. Pupils and teachers found the day enjoyable as it provided the opportunity to practice language structures in new languages as well as learning elements of culture in each of the languages on offer. All said that they felt enriched by this experience and are looking forward to joining our sessions in the future.
