Biography

Michelle is an anatomist with a strong interest in endocrinology, reproduction and embryology. She herself undertook the BSc (hons) in Anatomy at the University of Glasgow before completing her PhD in Reproductive Biology at the University of Edinburgh, investigating the role for androgens in male reproductive development. Michelle continued to work in reproductive research, completing two post-doctoral positions before taking up a position back in the University of Glasgow Anatomy team as a University Teacher.

Research interests

Michelle is active in both scientific and pedagogical research.

Current scientific research:

  • The role for androgens in early brain masculinisation in children with disorders of sexual development
  • The impact of exogenous progesterone in early pregnancy and the links with IVF outcomes
  • The role for stromal androgen receptor expression in prostate cancer

Current pedagogical research:

  • Investigating the development of Graduate Attributes in Life Sciences students
  • The impact of digital technology on undergraduate life sciences teaching
  • Evaluation of new anatomy curriculum for nursing students
  • The use of problem based learning in life sciences education
