I was invited to contribute to the University of Oxford’s Property Law Discussion Group and choose alluvion and avulsion as my topics. Alluvion and avulsion are the doctrines which regulate the change in ownership, or legal status of land, through the operation of water. This presentation investigated how these doctrines will have to adapt in light of the predicted increase in topographical change caused by water and the potential increase of human acts of reclamation and embankment. I used the works to save Abergeldie Castle as an example of the type of work that might become more frequent in the future.
