Policy and Legislation

Policy and Legislation

Safety Legislation has been formalised under the Health and Safty At Work Act (1974). Under this Act and many additional Regulations which augment it, there are responsibilities for both management and individual workers which are intended to minimise the risks at work.

The following links highlight the legislation which form the basis for safety guidelines and processes given in this handbook, and which govern all work-related processes within Glasgow University. Responsibility for the safety of staff and students remains with the University Court, and operates through the University's Safety and Environmental Protection Services (SEPS) and Safety Committees.
