Fifth Anniversary of Gaelic with Immersion Programme at the University of Glasgow
The Gaelic with Immersion Programme at the University of Glasgow marked its fifth anniversary in Celtic & Gaelic, College of Arts & Humanities, with the event “Birthday na Bliadhna Bhogaidh”.
The programme has gone from strength to strength since its establishment in 2020, with over 50 students completing the Gaelic Immersion Year, either as part of a five-year MA Gaelic with Immersion degree, or as a year-long Certificate in Higher Education (Cert HE).
Dr Kathleen Reddy, Gaelic with Immersion Programme Convenor, said, “It’s wonderful to see how successful Gaelic Immersion Year alumni have been. Teachers who have completed the programme are now teaching in Gaelic Medium Education at primary and secondary levels and others have gone on to make important contributions to Gaelic development in organisations and communities throughout Scotland.”
Dr Geraldine Parsons, Head of Celtic & Gaelic at the University of Glasgow, stated: “We recognise how important the Gaelic with Immersion Programme is in increasing Gaelic capacity at a national level. The programme provides an exceptional opportunity for learners to develop their Gaelic skills at the University of Glasgow as well as through our partnerships with the Gaelic Books Council and Ceòlas in South Uist.”
The Gaelic with Immersion Programme is open to University of Glasgow undergraduate students as part of an MA, as well as to external candidates as a Certificate in Higher Education. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2025/26 academic year.
