Biography

I worked as an accountant for 20 years before studying on the HTA MSc run by HEHTA at the University of Glasgow in 2013.  During the summer break of the MSc I worked at the Health Economics Group at Newcastle University on a lung transplantation clinical trial. After completing the MSc in 2015 I began working for HEHTA as a Research Assistant working mainly on economic evaluations alongside clinical trials. Clinical trials I have worked on while at HEHTA include interventions for adults with intellectual disabilities and depression, treatment to reduce COPD exacerbations, lung cancer screening and financial incentives for encouraging smoking cessation in pregnant women. I also work on feasibility studies assessing the acceptability and feasibility of collecting data for economic evaluations, for example digital health interventions and behavioural interventions for people with severe intellectual disabilities. I have recently worked on other study types, building models to estimate cost-effectiveness; including estimating the cost-effectiveness of implementing a smoke-free policy in Scottish prisons.

My PhD proposed a new role for conceptual models in economic evaluations; using them to further investigate clinical trial data, particularly when results are uncertain.
