Biography

Mia is a Lecturer on the Global Mental Health MSc Programme within the School of Health and Wellbeing and Lead for the Global Mental Health MSc with a Specialism in Health Promotion.

Mia's interests lie in supporting students to apply their learning to real-world problems and fostering hope in their capacity to create meaningful change. She is co-leading the development of a new Curriculum for Life course based on the IMPACT (Inspiring Movements for Progressive Action and Change Together) Project, an initiative which supports students to develop leadership, employability and change-making skills while addressing issues linked to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

Mia is committed to creating inclusive learning environments and championing student voice. She is a member of a student-alumni-staff partnership that seeks to promote decolonial approaches to curriculum design across the School of Health and Wellbeing and strengthen critical reflexivity and positionality among students and staff.

Mia is also a member of the School's Learning and Teaching Committee and serves as the School's Technology-Enhanced Learning and Teaching Lead.

Supervision

GMH Dissertation Supervised (2025-26): A mixed-methods evaluation of the IMPACT Project workshop and its influence on student wellbeing, peer connection, confidence, and hopefulness.

Teaching

Mia teaches across the Global Mental Health MSc programme on topics including mental health promotion across the lifespan and research methods. She has also contributed to the development and refinement of a wide range of online learning resources across the School of Health and Wellbeing, including resources relating to Global Mental Health, Public Health, and Infant Mental Health.

Mia has developed and facilitated a range of educational enhancement activities within the School, including workshops focused on change campaigning, decolonisation, positionality, artificial intelligence in assessment, employability, and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Her current curriculum development work focuses on expanding opportunities for interdisciplinary, experiential, and sustainability-oriented learning through the University's Curriculum for Life initiative.

Mia's teaching is underpinned by active, experiential, and participatory approaches, alongside critical pedagogy and student partnership. She is committed to creating inclusive and engaging learning environments that empower students to apply their learning beyond the classroom.

She also supervises Global Mental Health MSc dissertations and provides academic guidance to students as an Adviser of Studies.
