Biography

Professor Melville graduated from the University of Glasgow with a BSc (Hons) in 1990 and in Medicine (MBChB) in 1993. After completing higher specialist training in General Adult Psychiatry and Learning Disabilities Psychiatry in 2003, he completed a higher degree (MD, University of Glasgow 2010). His current post as Professor of Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry is in the School of Health and Wellbeing, in the College of Medicine Veterinary and Life Sciences. He worked as the PGR convener from 2014-2015 and is very active in supporting early and mid-career researchers to develop their research skills and experience.

Since 2003, Professor Melville has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, working across services to diagnose mental health conditions and neurodevelopmental conditions, such as ASD and ADHD.

Diagnosis and management of mental health conditions
Integrating psychological therapies, medication and lifestyle approaches in the management of mental health conditions
Developing accessible and effective psychological therapies for adults with mental health conditions and co-existing neurodevelopmental conditions
Lifestyle behaviour programmes to promote health and wellbeing.
