School of Health & Wellbeing

The Clarice Pears building opened in early 2023 and is home to the School of Health & Wellbeing. It is named after the mother of the three founders of the Pears Foundation, which donated £5 million towards the building's construction and continues to support Byres Community Hub through the Clarice Pears Community Fund.

Susan O’Donnell, Community Engagement Lead at the School of Health & Wellbeing said:

“We wanted to give The Pears Foundation a gift to thank them for their ongoing support of Byres Community Hub. We initially thought of sending them a photograph of the Clarice Pears building to display in their London offices, but then we had the idea to commission a painting instead.

“Straight away, I thought of Allan Richardson, a local artist who paints beautiful watercolours and sketches of West End landmarks and who has been a regular visitor to the Clarice Pears building since Byres Community Hub opened.

“We are so happy that Allan agreed to take on this commission and have enjoyed learning more about his process through the development of the painting. His finished work is even more special than we could have hoped.”

The Clarice Pears building welcomes visitors Monday to Friday, from 9am until 5pm.
