The SPHSU has responded to a WHO consultation on the implementation of the global strategy to reduce the harmful use of alcohol since its endorsement, and the way forward.
The response highlights the lack of progress in the three WHO 'best buy' interventions (tax increases, marketing restrictions and restricting availability of alcohol) and states that a fundamental barrier to addressing alcohol-related harms has been the lobbying and related activities of the alcohol industry.
