The recently-formed SHW Social Committee’s inaugural event in April 2023 met with a warm reception in the Level 1 Reception Area of the Clarice Pears building!

Thanks to funds received from the Ferguson Bequest, 25 April 2023 marked the date of the SHW Social Committee’s inaugural event – the Clarice Pears Spring Fling.

Nearly 130 of SHW’s finest enjoyed an afternoon of food, drink and fun – here are a few snaps (courtesy of the University’s Photography department) from the happy event…

Jill Pell offered everyone a warm welcome and gave her blessing as Director of SHW to this “unofficial opening” of the Clarice Pears Building which gave attendees the opportunity to get to know some of the other occupiers of our new digs, participate in a virtual quiz and enjoy some fantastic live music provided by Harry Hussey, Helen Minnis and Gary Kainth (collectively known as "The Husseys"), all washed down with some rather scrummy food and drink.

The winning quizzers (pictured below with the stand-in trophy) were Sharon Greenwood, Lisa Hall, Heather Fraser, Claire Hastie, Rona Strawbridge, Jana Anderson, Robert Heggie, Ryan Mulholland and Donald Lyall (Donald luckily missed out on being in the team photo). It is important to note that it was pure coincidence that three SHW Social Committee members were on the team…. The actual trophy, which has since arrived and will be shared within the winning team, will be up for grabs at future SHW Social Committee events and so don’t give up hope of holding it high in the future!

The team bringing up the rear are, as yet, unidentified – all we know is that they took part as "Team 166". If you believe that you were part of Team 166 then please get in touch as you too have a trophy to share custody of!

66.6% of the current SHW Social Committee (L-R: Lisa Hall, Audrey Dickie, Jana Anderson, Elaine Hindle, Amanda Reid, Enni Miller, June Allen and Robert Heggie) had a great time but missed the company of the remaining 33.3% (Alieda McKinney, Elaine Rodgers, David Jamieson and Jason Lang) who were unable to join in on the day.

Huge thanks to everyone who attended and made the afternoon such a good laugh – we’re already looking forward to seeing you at the next event which will be picked from the ideas received during the Spring Fling and as part of the feedback survey.

In the meantime, suggestions for future events and expressions of interest in joining the committee are most welcome at shw-social@glasgow.ac.uk
