SLDO presents Our Human Condition

Published: 23 April 2024

A photography exhibition highlighting the lives of people with different genetic conditions as part of Scottish Learning Disabilities Week 2024 6-10 May.

The Scottish Learning Disabilities Observatory is delighted to host this photography exhibition, in partnership with Promoting a More Inclusive Society (PAMIS), who support people with profound and multiple disabilities and their families and carers, as part of Scottish Learning Disabilities Week 2024.

Our Human Condition is a project led by Professor Paul Wenham Clarke, a professional photographer and professor at the Arts University of Bournemouth. The photographs featured in this project accompany stories from each of the families involved, sharing their sibling experiences. Paul’s project encourages us all to think about the way that society interacts with people with rare genetic conditions and people with disabilities.

Six images from the Our Human Condition project will be exhibited in the Byres Community Hub from 6th-10th May as part Scottish Learning Disability Week, alongside displays of three recent projects led by the Scottish Learning Disabilities Observatory.

These three projects link to the themes of highlighting and addressing stigma (This is Me: Valuing the lives of people with learning disabilities), tackling discrimination and building belonging through community activities (Drumming Up Change) and breaking down barriers to research engagement through the creation of easier to understand research outputs (Research for Everyone).
