Dr Dempster awarded the Clough Medal

Congratulations to Dr Tim Dempster, who has been awarded the 2018/19 Clough Medal. The medal is presented by The Edinburgh Geological Society to a senior scientist who, in the view of the Society’s Clough Committee, has made a significant contribution to knowledge of the geology of Scotland or the north of England, or a Scottish geologist who has significantly advanced the knowledge of any aspect of geology.

The award has been made in recognition of the exceptional contributions he has made to advancing the understanding of the geology of Scotland, particularly the metamorphic geology of the Highlands, where he has employed a wide range of technologies to better understand the processes; and his work as a dedicated and popular teacher of undergraduate students, using the Highlands of Scotland as a ‘natural laboratory’.
