School of Education Accreditations and Quality & Enhancement Privacy Notice
This privacy notice explains how the School of Education at University of Glasgow collects, manages, uses and protects your data for the purpose of Accreditations and Quality & Enhancement processes. It outlines the types of data we hold and how we use that data to undertake our Accreditations and Quality & Enhancement processes.

Our legal basis for processing your data
The School of Education processes and stores personal information relating to alumni, students and staff. Alumni include graduates, former students receiving non-graduating qualifications and former exchange students.
For purposes of Accreditations and Quality & Enhancement, The School of Education processes the information outlined in this notice in pursuit of our legitimate interests in communicating with alumni to enable the University to achieve its strategic and operational goals, with your consent to do so.
We may contact you by email and/or social media.
Where your data comes from
The data for this purpose is obtained directly from you while you are a student of the University of Glasgow. It will be collected directly through an electronic form.
Some information may also come from reliable, public sources. For example, the publicly available General Teaching Council for Scotland online register of teachers.
The data we hold
For this purpose, we hold the following information about our alumni
- Your name, title, gender, and date of birth if we have it.
- Your preferred personal email address and / or social media contact.
- Communication preferences, such as if you have told us you do not want any contact from us.
How we use your data
All the personal data you submit is processed by staff at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom.
We will use your details to invite you to share your views and experiences, and to participate in our Accreditations and Quality & Enhancement processes. This might be through completion of an online survey, participation in online or in-person focus groups, or participation in online or in-person interviews.
You will always have the opportunity to opt out of any of this processing: see Your rights and preferences below.
If you provide contact information, and unless you specify otherwise, we will assume this includes consent for us to use that data for the purposes listed above. If we lose touch with you, we may use publicly available contact details to re-establish our connection and seek your permission to update your contact details. You can manage your communications preferences at any time.
Protecting your data
The personal information we obtain is processed in accordance with all relevant data protection legislation. When this legislation is amended or replaced, we review and update our data processing practices accordingly.
Your data is always securely processed and transmitted, protecting against unauthorised or unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction or damage. Data is never “sold” to third parties.
How long do we keep it for?
Your data will be retained by the Accreditation and Rankings team for the length of time you agree to. You will be given a choice of 2 years, 5 years and indefinitely. If you choose a fixed time period, your data will be securely deleted after this time.
Your rights and preferences*
The School of Education considers its relationship with alumni to be lifelong. You always have the right to:
- be informed as to how we use your data (via this privacy notice)
- access or request a copy of the data we hold about you (see below)
- update your information and/or manage your communications preferences at any time
- opt out of specific types of processing
- withdraw your consent
- ask us to remove your data from our records (see below)
- withdraw consent, where it is used as a legal basis for processing.

*Please note that the ability to exercise these rights will vary and depend on the legal basis on which the processing is being carried out.
