Biography

Kirsty Lawson is a secondary school class teacher in Gaelic education, and is currently seconded to the University of Glasgow as a Teacher Associate at the Centre for Teaching Excellence. She holds a BSc Hons in Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh, a PGDE (Primary) from the University of Strathclyde, and was a Gaelic-medium primary teacher for 17 years before moving to secondary education.

With parents from the Western Isles and having grown up in the Highlands surrounded by the Gaelic language, music, and culture, she is passionate about ensuring Gaelic’s place in Scotland through education.

Research interests

Kirsty is currently in her final year of a Master’s degree in Gaelic Education through Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and UHI. She has a keen interest in global immersion education and how minority languages can be taught through immersion education and how culture can be intertwined within the curriculum.

She is affiliated with the Gaelic Education Hub in her role as a Teacher Associate at the Centre for Teaching Excellence.
