Dr Janice Kim
- Lecturer in Education (School of Education)
Biography
Janice Kim is a Lecturer in Education Policy at the School of Education, University of Glasgow. Her research interests lie at the intersection of education, public policy, and international development, with a particular focus on how education reforms and policies shape child development, learning outcomes, and educational trajectories. Her research aims to inform evidence-based policy decisions that address educational inequalities and improve school effectiveness across both high-income and low- and middle-income countries.
Her areas of expertise include early childhood education and development, teacher professional development, educational technology, education governance and finance, and the application of quantitative and experimental methods. She currently co-leads several research projects spanning these themes: impact evaluations of digital personalized learning and innovative pedagogical approaches on student achievement, a conceptual and empirical study of teacher agency; a quasi-experimental analysis on the effects of education reforms, and a comparative study of educational inequalities using international large-scale assessment data such as PISA.
Janice holds a PhD in the Economics of Education from the University of Cambridge, an MA in Education Policy and Social Analysis from Columbia University, and an MA in Education from Seoul National University. Prior to joining academia, she spent over a decade working at international organizations including the World Bank and the OECD, as well as national government bodies in the US and Korea, where she led policy dialogue on education reform, evidence-informed decision-making, and comparative policy analysis.
Currently, she serves as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Educational Development, a member of the Executive Committee at UKFIET: The Education and Development Forum, and an Associate Member of the REAL Centre at the University of Cambridge.
