Biography

I joined the Centre for Teaching Excellence (CfTE), based at the University of Glasgow, in October 2025 and I am currently part of the Centre’s Learning for Sustainability and Rural Education hub. At present, I am seconded to work at the CfTE on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. I am interested in all aspects of the Centre’s work and believe in the transformative potential which research can have on educational practice.

Having graduated with a PGDE from the University of Glasgow in 2012, I have worked across several local authority areas as a primary school teacher, teaching at early, first and second levels of the Curriculum for Excellence. Throughout my career, I have been involved in a number of practitioner enquiry projects related to Learning for Sustainability, particularly global citizenship and outdoor learning, as well as exploring the impact collaborative learning experiences can have on pupil engagement.

I am eager to collaborate with passionate educators across all sectors of education who have an interest in any aspect of learning for sustainability and who value the role of research in the development of pedagogy and practice.

Research interests

While having a number of educational interests, such as equitable approaches to learning and teaching, collaborative approaches to learning and STEM education, my main area of focus is Learning for Sustainability. In 2015, I completed a MEd in Professional Practice at the University of Glasgow. My dissertation explored the question of ‘how is global citizenship understood within Scottish educational policy?’ in which I explored the key concepts within academic literature on global citizenship and then analysed core policy documentation to identify which of these were reflected within the CfE, as well as the balance between these concepts within policy texts. While completing my dissertation, I was also involved in a Tanzanian partnership project which included establishing a partnership between our school and a Tanzanian primary school as well as coordinating teacher visits between both schools. I built upon this work by completing the GTCS accreditation in Learning for Sustainability in 2018.

At present, I am interested in exploring Learning for Sustainability across the curriculum, particularly through interdisciplinary projects and in equitable approaches to education. In recent years, I have worked collaboratively with school colleagues to facilitate whole-school interdisciplinary outdoor learning events for all students our school.

Outside of my work with the CfTE and in schools, I am currently studying towards a Doctorate in Education through the University of Glasgow.
