Dr Yulia Nesterova has been selected as one of the University of Glasgow’s three institutional submissions for the 2026 Philip Leverhulme Prize in Sociology & Social Policy.

Yulia’s research focuses on the intersections of education, peacebuilding, social justice, and youth engagement, particularly in conflict‑affected and authoritarian settings. Her work has gained international recognition through collaborations with UNESCO, UNITAR, and her role as a Member of the Working Group on Youth, Peace, and Security at FBA—the Swedish Agency for Peace, Security and Development.

Philip Leverhulme Prizes recognise the achievement of outstanding early-career researchers whose work has already won international recognition and whose future is exceptionally promising. In 2026 there are thirty prizes available, with up to five prizes offered for researchers in Sociology and Social Policy.

Prizes offer £100,000 over two or three years and may be used for any purpose that advances the prize winner’s research. Applications close on 14 May, with winners expected to be announced in November.

If awarded the Prize, Yulia will consolidate and extend the project “From playgrounds to parades: The militarisation of Russian children in the name of peace,” producing a monograph, public‑facing outputs, and an open‑access digital archive.
