How do you normally experience food? Do you draw on all five senses? In the first part of the programme, Professor Shinagawa will discuss the importance of food consciousness in Japanese tradition and illustrate it through activities that aim to cultivate an attitude towards food. He will be followed by Tea Master Nakazawa who will present the Way of Tea (Sado, so-called Japanese tea ceremony).

If you would like to learn more about the Way of Tea, please take a look at this short clip by Master Nakazawa: https://youtu.be/kUL_MUrSHfg

 Please note:

  • The event is interactive and experiential. In order to experience the sense of being in a typical Japanese tea room, participants are asked to take off shoes and sit on the Japanese mats on the floor. Please join the event in comfortable clothes and bring a cushion, if you wish. (There will be a few chairs available for those who need them.)
  • The event is free and there is no need for registration. But the door will be closed if the room is full.

The event is supported by the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh and Food Consciousness.
