Conference Accommodation

BathParticipants should note that the conference is planned to open with registration at 9:30-10:00 on Thursday 27 August, and end after lunch on Saturday 29 August.   The conference venue is within the central Glasgow University campus, at 4 University Gardens.

Participants are expected to make their own arrangements for accommodation, but some suggested local possibilities, many bookable online, are made readily accessible via this page. These range from budget student-type accommodation in halls of residence, through guest houses and B&Bs, to 5-star hotels.

Campus and local area maps are available here.

Hotel Bookings
5-star to 2-star hotels are listed here, in some cases with preferential rates negotiated by Glasgow University’s Conference and Visitor Services Office, through whom bookings can be made by following this link. Alternatively, these and other hotels can of course be booked direct. In all cases we would recommended participants to book ‘West End’ and NOT ‘city centre’ hotels. Glasgow University is NOT in the city centre.

Kirklee Hotel
Pleasant, better-than-average local guest house with personal touch. Offers £5 discount for University of Glasgow connection.

Kelvin Hotel Great Western Road
2-star hotel very close to conference venue.

All these halls of residence are off-campus, self-catering, and bookable online. The best choices (tolerable if participants expect to spend their waking hours at the conference) are the first two.

From Queen Margaret Hall, travel to the conference venue is a pleasant walk partly though the Botanic Gardens.

From Cairncross House, a similar (10-15 minute) walk takes in Kelvingrove Park.

Wolfson Hall is located considerably further from the conference venue.

Murano Street student village is a sizeable modern facility with very basic rooms in shared units for up to 12 persons. Self-contained flats for a group start from only £18.50 per bedroom: this might be suitable for anyone visiting with family.
