Signing up for a marathon is a big undertaking, especially when it is in April and you have to train during the winter. However, everyone says "If you only do one, got to be London."

So long training runs in the driving rain every Sunday complete, I headed down last week to run the 44th London Marathon not knowing if I could run all the way. Long story -short, it was a truly uplifting experience with large, noisy, supportive crowds on both sides of the street all the way round the 26.2 miles course. Running past Canary Wharf, Cutty Sark, over Tower Bridge (see photo), up the side of the Houses of Parliament and  finishing at Buckingham Palace. I really dont think the location could be surpassed and the course is flat. What made it  for me was the crowds, chanting your name, offering high calory  treats, playing music, showing amusing banners and tumultuous cheering from the first to the last step. Buoyed by the electric atmosphere, it was the quickest 3 hours and 48 minutes of my life. I ran all the way and had a good cry at the end.  Nowhere does marathons like London does, so if you are only considering one....
