Research interests

Nicol is Professor of Molecular Oncology at the School of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow. He is motivated by what's round the corner and the societal impact of research.

His research activities focus on translational cancer research including biomarker development, clinical trials and cancer cell immortality. His research has successfully delivered preclinical findings into clinical studies. Nicol values global co-operation and interdisciplinary research and have been part of, and led, complex national, European and global consortia.

Nicol has extensive experience in career, research and policy development internationally and chairs/sits on several international funding committees which span disciplines from medical sciences through to social sciences and the humanities. His roles with international finding agencies highlight his experience in identifying and nurturing complex partnerships, identifying local needs within global context and in developing and implementing impact evaluation.

Nicol works both internally and externally across traditional discipline boundaries.
