Adam Smith Business School hosts visit from the Consul General of India

We welcomed the esteemed Consul General of India, Shri. Bijay Selvaraj, along with Consul and Head of Chancery, Shri. Satya Veer Singh, to the School on Monday 18 March 2024

On Monday 18 March, we hosted a visit from the esteemed Consul General of India, Shri. Bijay Selvaraj, along with Consul and Head of Chancery, Shri. Satya Veer Singh, at the Adam Smith Business School.

University of Glasgow delegates were:

  • Rachel Sandison, Deputy Vice Chancellor, External Engagement and Vice Principal, External Relations
  • Professor Moyra Boland, Dean for Global Engagement Central and South Asia
  • Professor Eleanor Shaw, Head of the Adam Smith Business School
  • Dr Anthony Devine, Director of Learning and Teaching, Adam Smith Business School
  • Dr Belgin Okay-Somerville, Director of Internationalisation, Adam Smith Business School
  • Professor Nuran Acur, Director of Research, Adam Smith Business School.

The University of Glasgow and Indian Council for Cultural Relations are in the process of signing a Memorandum of Understanding for creating a Chair of Indian Studies. Hosting a Chair of Indian Studies demonstrates a commitment to strengthening relationships with Indian partners. Through the Chair of Indian Studies, the School intends to build upon our collaborative research links with our partners in India, as well as building our reputation in the region as a World Changing Business School.

Dr Belgin Okay-Somerville said: “We are delighted at the opportunity to host a Chair of Indian Studies at the Adam Smith Business School. Signifying the School’s values in being engaging, enterprising and enlightening and India’s accelerated commitment to entrepreneurship development, the academic area for the Chair will be Innovation and Entrepreneurship, with a start date of January 2025.”

This initiative aligns with the long-term goal of fostering a greater understanding and awareness of India and Indian Civilisation amongst the global academic community.
