A joint event with University of Glasgow and The National Institute of Economic and Social Research

6 April 2023, 09:45 - 11:45am
Room 206, Business School Lecture Theatre, University of Glasgow

As the cost-of-living crisis shows little sign of abating, living standards across the UK are set to fall for millions of households over the coming year. How will ongoing low economic growth and the UK’s poor productivity performance affect the prospect of recovery in Scotland where there are areas of prosperity but also areas of structural disadvantage and deprivation? What role can further devolution or independence play in improving Scottish socio-economic development and well-being?

This event will bring together academics and policy makers to discuss the state of the Scottish economy and the impact of greater devolution or independence. The partnership between Glasgow University and the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) will present the latest findings from NIESR’s economic forecast for Scotland – including growth, productivity, employment and the growing problem of inactivity. We will also hear from Scottish experts on what role further devolution or independence could play in helping or hindering the Scottish economy.
