Biography
Dr Rheinallt Jones is a lecturer in animal nutrition at the University of Glasgow. After graduating as a veterinarian from the University of Glasgow in 2012, he spent 7 years in predominantly production animal practice in the north of England. In 2019, he joined the Scottish Centre for Production Animal Health & Food Safety as a clinical resident, where he completed his PhD exploring faecal biomarkers of gastrointestinal health and efficiency. He currently holds the role of lecturer in animal nutrition in the School of Biodiversity, One Health & Veterinary Medicine, and is presently Cochno Farm and Research Centre.
Research interests
Themes within my research include:
- Development of non-invasive biomarkers to monitor nutrient utilisation efficiency and gastrointestinal health.
- Utilisation of human food waste or alternative ingredients as a source of nutrients for animal production.
- Exploration of whether and how anthropogenic environmental contaminants affect gastrointestinal function.
