Infectious Disease in South America

Our South American activities within this theme focus largely on understanding the transmission dynamics of zoonotic disease, particularly rabies. We work with several partners to understand the factors affecting inter-species disease transmission and our goal is to provide the evidence base for policies directed at reduction of the human disease burden.

Understanding transmission dynamics is key to disease control. In South America, our researchers are exploring how to control rabies that is transmitted by vampire bats by asking fundamental question about disease dynamics and testing the effectiveness of control methods.
