Assessing the impact of foot-and-mouth disease control programs

Richard Reeve, Dan Haydon, Tiziana Lembo & Mani Mudaliar

The overall goal of this partnership award is to develop a multilateral collaboration between epidemiological analysts with expert knowledge of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) vaccinology within the Boyd Orr Centre for Population and Ecosystem Health at the University of Glasgow, experts on data capture and management for wide- scale vaccination and surveillance campaigns at the Wise Monkey Portal, FMD specialists from the Pirbright Institute which contains the World Reference Laboratory for FMD, the State Veterinary Service of Tamil Nadu who are implementing the intervention, and the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University where there exists a valuable opportunity to build on in-country analytical capacity to study the epidemiology of FMDV. The purpose of the collaboration will be to lay the groundwork for a long-term study of FMDV epidemiology as the disease is progressively 'damped-down' and eliminated.
