We are deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Hatim Karimjee, a philanthropist of great vision and commitment who, as the Chairman of the Karimjee Jivanjee Foundation, established a strong legacy for philanthropy in education and conservation in Tanzania. In 2016, Mr. Karimjee set up a scholarship fund to provide support for Tanzanian students to study at the University of Glasgow on the MSc in Conservation Management of African Ecosystems, a programme which is run in partnership the Nelson Mandela African Institution for Science and Technology and other conservation partners in Tanzania.

Although the programme has not been running long, the opportunities provided by the Karimjee Jivanjee Foundation have already transformed the lives of several young Tanzanian scientists and is providing a long-lasting legacy for Tanzanian conservation. It was always a great pleasure to work with Mr. Karimjee and his vision, generosity and clear sightedness brought a rare grace and simplicity to the programme.  We are deeply saddened by the loss of a true gentleman and visionary and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
