Each of the 30 Prize Winners receives £100,000 which can be used over two or three years to advance their research

Prof. Cross joined the University of Glasgow’s Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology in 2017 as a Professor of Social Robotics, where she leads the Social Brain in Action Laboratory. Her team's research examines experience-dependent plasticity in the human brain and behaviour via social learning tasks with brain imaging, brain stimulation and psychophysical methods. Her group has made significant contributions to our understanding of neuroaesthetics, brain and behavioural manifestations of expertise and observational learning and more recently, human-robot interaction.

In response to receiving this prize, Prof. Cross says: “It is a huge honour to receive a Leverhulme Prize in recognition of the work my team and I have been carrying out over the past years. It is particularly exciting to have this prize highlight the innovative and world-leading research in social robotics that is taking off here at the University of Glasgow and I’m looking forward to using the prize money to build my group’s capacity in this domain."

Philip Leverhulme Prizes have been awarded annually since 2001 in commemoration of the contribution to the work of the Trust made by Philip Leverhulme, the Third Viscount Leverhulme and grandson of William Hesketh Lever, the founder of the Trust. The prizes recognise the achievement of outstanding researchers whose work has already attracted international recognition and whose future career is exceptionally promising.

In 2018 the Trust offered five prizes in each of the following subject areas: Classics; Earth Sciences; Physics; Politics and International Relations; Psychology; Visual and Performing Arts.

Each of the 30 Prize Winners receives £100,000 which can be used over two or three years to advance their research.
